Our Interview with Stacie

Mommy’s Company (MC): How did you come up with your business idea?

Stacie Mindich-Jordan (SMJ): I simply kept on forgetting things in my diaper bag so looked for a diaper bag that was sold pre-packed and it did not exist!

MC: How did you make your vision a reality?

SMJ: It happened so fast! I knew how important it was to have a diaper bag pre-packed with all the baby’s important first years essentials. It makes a big difference to have a pacifier on hand when on the road and your baby is hysterical crying in the car!

MC: What was your most exciting entrepreneur moment?

SMJ: After my third month in business, the TV show The View called and asked me if they could feature my bag on their “Hot Ideas” segment.

MC: What was your biggest obstacle?

SMJ: Trying to act like a businesswoman while my kids were grabbing the phone wanting to talk to clients!

MC: How did you overcome the obstacle?

SMJ: After a few weeks of being in business, I went onto craigslist.com and found an office for rent 2 miles away from my home.

MC: What surprises you most about being an entrepreneur?

SMJ: How successful my company got from just my own marketing. Also how well received my becoming an entrepreneur was with everyone I came into contact with.

MC: What advice do you give to entrepreneurial moms just starting out?

SMJ: Take your time and do this at your own pace. Don’t get discouraged. If you are passionate about your product or service you will find the strength and time to do it!

MC: What book has inspired you?

SMJ: It was not a book that inspired me but a subscription to Entrepreneur magazine that I received from my beautiful husband. I knew so many moms in that were featured in articles so I knew I too could start up my business.

MC: What product could you not live without?

SMJ: My blackberry! I have 7 email addresses and need to read them all day on my route to drop off and pick up the kids from school , playdates, etc.

MC: What is your first thought in the morning?

SMJ: I can’t wait to see my kids’ delicious morning faces!

MC: What do your kids think of your business?

SMJ: My 5 year old took monopoly money and bought a bag from me with it. He shows it to everyone! My daughter loves seeing all the press on TV. She yells, “Mommy’s bags!” Lisa Rinna featured my bag on her show Soaptalk and when we saw Lisa at a restaurant, my son was so excited to see her because he knew she owned my bag! They are really supportive. They know if I make money, they get toys!
